reTrek updates your progress automatically in the background, so you don't need to keep it open. The one catch: for privacy, iPhone keeps your health data locked while your phone is locked, so new steps are picked up shortly after you next unlock it, not the moment you walk.
To update right now, open your active adventure and tap the refresh button (the circular-arrows icon) at the top.
Still not moving? Check these:
- Open the Health app and look for today's steps. If they're there, reTrek will pick them up. If they're not there, that's the real issue: your iPhone or tracker isn't recording steps to Apple Health (see "Which trackers work?").
- You need an active adventure. Progress only moves while one is active, so start or resume one.
- Make sure reTrek has Apple Health access turned on (see "Connecting Apple Health isn't working").
reTrek needs read access to two Apple Health data types to move you along routes:
- Steps
- Walking + Running Distance
On the Health access screen, both toggles start off. Tapping "Allow" without turning them on leaves reTrek with no data, so flip both on.
To turn them on later, open Settings → Privacy and Security → Health → reTrek, and enable both Steps and Walking + Running Distance. You can also do this in the Health app: tap your profile photo → Apps and Services → reTrek.
Just set up a new iPhone? It may not have recorded any steps yet. Walk a little, then check again.
If more than one app or device writes steps to Apple Health (for example, your iPhone and a Garmin, Fitbit, or other tracker), reTrek can add them together, so the same walk gets counted more than once.
To fix it, open reTrek and go to Settings → Account → Activity source. Pick the single source you want to count, for example just your iPhone or just your watch, instead of "All sources."
- This option only appears if more than one source is writing steps to Apple Health, which usually means a third-party tracker alongside your iPhone. If you only use your iPhone, you won't see it.
- Changing it applies to new activity only. Past adventure progress stays as it is.
Open reTrek and go to Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account and the data tied to it, as described in our privacy policy.
Important: deleting your account doesn't cancel your subscription. If you're a PRO subscriber, cancel it first to avoid another charge. You can cancel in the app (Settings → Account → Manage) or with Apple (Settings → your name → Subscriptions).
